The Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation

Established in 1992, the Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation is funded entirely by individual and corporate donors who desire to provide educational opportunities for exceptional and civic-minded high school students. Every year the number of applicants, as well as their caliber, continue to increase. LHOSF's limited resources have been able to make the dream of a college education a reality for so many deserving students. In 2004, due to the generous donation of the family of Shakim Compere--in honor of their late mother--additional scholarships were made available to outstanding high school students.

In a perfect world, we would be able to assist all who apply. However, because resources are scarce, we can only assist a few students. The LHOSF selection committee gives every application great detail and attention.

LHOSF Scholarship Guidelines

Each year, the selection committee designates at least four students as LHOSF scholars. With this honor comes a $1000 renewable scholarship and the responsibility of maintaining the service commitment expected of a LHOSF scholar. Scholarship recipients may use their scholarship at any two or four year college or university they choose. The scholarship's only limitation is that they maintain a B average and their commitment to service.

Selection Process

The Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation has a selection committee composed of community leaders and educators. In reviewing applications, the selection committee seeks to select recipients based on demonstrated financial need, active participation in community service initiatives, and overall academic excellence.

The selection of scholars will be made before they enter college. The official awards ceremony will be in May at our annual scholarship banquet.

Students are encouraged to ask their guidance counselors about LHOSF applications. If the guidance counselor does not have applications, the Application can be downloaded online.
